It is ideally positioned for it. You can drive down to Newnham and catch the Bore at various points along the main road all the way up to Maisemore. Locally there are some lovely pubs to eat at.
The barn itself is stunning. Set in a working farmyard, the comfort of the furnishings is truly relaxing. Wouldn't hesitate to return or recommend. The owners are very friendly and cannot do enough to make you feel welcome. The accommodation is beautifully decorated to a very high standard, has every modern convenience you could expect including a lovely wood burning stove and is in a lovely location.
We have had 2 weekend breaks here and a week's holiday. Great value for money.
See other formats Westbury in Old Photographs Michael Randall Michael Randall invites you to take a wander back through time, using images of buildings, people and events in Westbury and Westbury Leigh captured by photographers working from the time of Queen Victoria to that of our present Queen. Some took their own discharge at this point and were to be punished should they bother to return at a later date. A final attempt in failed when a hot spot caused the firebricks to disintegrate.
Loads to do in the area too. There is also a smaller barn called the Calf Shed if you do not need 4 bedrooms.
A great place to stay. The views were very rural and the dairy cows offered a visiting point for the toddler in the group. There was plenty of room for us all and it was spacious enough for a toddler to move around in without damaging himself or others. There was a good pub in the village and the hosts provided a map with a local footpath from the barn and other walks in the area.
The house was fantastic, with lots of space. There was a lovely fire which we lit every day, a fully equipped kitchen, always lots of hot water and lots of bathrooms. It was really child friendly and a cot and high chair were left out for our 9mth old. We also really liked being on a farm, the cows were very friendly, and we could walk into the town via the fields.
Finally, our hosts could not have been more helpful and the area is magnificent, there was so much to do and we really only tipped the surface. I just wish we could go back in the summer and enjoy the outside areas more. Review of The Stone Barn Posted on 12 Jan by Mrs turton Customer stayed Jan The house and its facilities were excellent - perfect for our extended family get away. The location of the property was ideal too; remote enough to feel away from it all but plenty to do within a short drive.
It was comfortable, clean, warm and overall a high quality finished property. We all loved it! It was to celebrate an early Christmas close to home and it was perfect. We will be back. Now would recommend family stay on holiday sometime in the future.
It's that good and suits all purposes. Many Thanks to the owners. The Stone Barn is an amazing place to stay. A great place for touring the Forest of Dean. A fabulous property and there was so much to do in the area for all my family, which isn't always the case when your children range from 18 to 7! The owners are extremely nice and very accommodating. Ten out of ten in my opinion. Review of The Stone Barn Posted on 29 Jun by Mrs notley Customer stayed Jun The location was really fun with the cows just outside the property - it made it feel very 'countryside'.
The property was spacious for the 7 of us and just absolutely lovely. It was clean and light, with ample parking and a good sized kitchen table for us all to sit around comfortably - we even played the games provided.
Review of The Stone Barn Posted on by Mr lockwood Customer stayed Jun The property was beautiful, having been recently renovated to a high standard. The accommodation was perfect, spacious, of a high quality and very well resourced. Everything we wanted was available and we had space to spread out and enjoy the home comforts. The property is based on a working farm, which was an absolute bonus for our small grandchildren. Nothing was too much trouble for the farm's owners, we were made to feel at home and were given a tour of the farm and went to see a milking session.
The children were so excited and were made to feel special. A lovely secluded place to stay. Review of The Stone Barn Posted on 26 Apr by Mr addy Customer stayed Apr The Stone Barn is a beautiful property in a lovely part of the world, recently renovated and equipped to a very high standard. The fact that the barn is on a working farm is very exciting, we loved it. We were lucky enough in April to have good weather and made good use of the decked patio to chill out and admire the lovely view.
We would definitely return and have no hesitation in recommending to others - and we're picky! Owners were attentive and keen to make sure we had all we needed without being in your face - just right. Review of The Stone Barn Posted on 04 Apr by Mrs wrighton Customer stayed Apr The owners were friendly and the herdsmen were also very pleasant and it was a lovely atmosphere. The house is lovely and we liked being on a working dairy farm as the children could see the tractors and cows from the house.
Review of The Stone Barn Posted on 03 Mar by Mrs johns Customer stayed Mar "Very attractive and spacious barn conversion, beds were especially comfortable and all the kitchen appliances worked well. The kitchen had everything including weighing scales. The house was warm and very comfortable. All the guests enjoyed their stay.
A real home away from home with heated floors, comfy sofas, lots of space and beautiful surroundings. We really hope to return. Everything is in good condition. The owners were on hand and helpful. It was very spacious and very comfortable. The barn retains many features, like beams etc yet has a very modern feel.
It's a beautiful place to stay and we will be back. We had an extremely relaxing weekend. The views are amazing, and when we go back next year we will be exploring more of the area. May I thank the owner who is a very lovely lady , and her family for their help, and for making our weekend a truly amazing one.
Look forward to seeing them all again next June We had everything we needed to make our holiday complete. The owners gave us a warm welcome and made sure we had everything we needed. Will definitely book this again once we agree on dates for next year. We were there for our daughter's wedding in Little Dean and it was close, comfy and beautiful. I feel so fortunate to have found this home in the perfect location. We will forever remember this week and the Stone Barn was a big part of that.
The views are beautiful the cows give us plenty of entertainment! Review of The Stone Barn Posted on 21 Sep by Mr whitehouse Customer stayed Sep The friendliness of the owners and their willingness to show us round their working farm. Our grandchildren loved the cows in the fields around the barn. The location - easy to get to, yet quiet and secluded. An ideal location for exploring the Forest of Dean and Gloucestershire.
The size of the barn, its tasteful decoration and the spaciousness of the bedrooms. It was really comfortable and spacious. The hosts were also very welcoming and great with the kids, giving them a tour of the farm. The owners were extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The facilities were excellent and everything was of a very high standard. Being so close to all the workings of the farm was a privilege and combined with the views made up for the odd farmyard smell!
We will definitely be back. Thanks so much to the Owners.
